Today's entry is about original meaning of "Otaku".
A year ago, I ask ANI san where do this word comes from actually. ANI san gave explanation; that "O* Taku" is an old Japanese word that has same meaning as "anata [you]". Example: "O Taku, dochirasan?" << this is so so polite! it means "Who are you?" |
And today at class, I learned new kanji which is the "Taku" of "O Taku", and it has another meaning. びっくりしました！www...
Teacher explained the meaning of (お/ O) "宅/Taku"as "one's house".
In the beginning of the lesson we (students) read an example sentence: "お宅のご主人は毎晩何時ごろ帰宅しますか?"
meaning is: "What time every evening does the husband in the "house" come "home"? ^o^ hahaha~
This is very interesting, because some people oftenly use the word "otaku" to express a game or anime nerd, without knowing the original word comes from. Even non-Japanese otaku didn't know this meaning too. I've just known it for a year, and today I've learned the other meaning ^ ^;

Teacher continue her explanation...She explained that the word has revoluted it's true meaning from "one's house" to describe "one" who always stays at home playing video games, reading manga, watching anime, collecting character or even chatting on the internet and hardly had time to go out and doing any other activities. Well, they actually going out to Akiba** 「Akihabara」to visit maid cafe, buy toys, cosplaying etc...
The word Otaku nowadays written in katakana "オタク" as it used to express us the geek of pika-pika world ^o^/ that's it! おしまい！
*"O" is a polite word to use, like in "O Namae (name), O Miyage (gifts), O Kyaku san (customer, we often hear this word when entering restaurant, store etc...)" and so on...
**Akiba also known as "Otaku no Machi or City of Otaku". And then created a new rule called "アキバ罫/ AKIBA KEI"<< I just know it today! from my teacher www~ I often go there twice in a month, and it takes about 30 minutes from Namicho's current base "Meguro"
